Ideally located between Haad Rin Nai and
Haad Rin Nok beaches, the Drop In Club Resort and Spa offers
four star accommodations including air conditioning, western
style bathrooms and a TV and mini-bar. Only a five minute
walk from the ferry station (which departs almost hourly from
Koh Samui), the Drop In Club offers some of the best accommodations
on the island of Koh Phangan.
Situated on the very top of the island,
the resort overlooks the waters and hills in the distance. Each
of the rooms and suites is furnished with teak wood and decorated
traditionally. Thai style buildings surround the pool, and a
larger building faces the quiet, less developed beach of Haad
Rin Nai. Every morning, my complimentary breakfast was served
to me while I sipped coffee and took in the views from the Tantawan
Restaurant, which serves both Thai and Western cuisine.
A jeep shuttles guests from the resort
down the hill to Haad Rin Nok where daily activities include
fishing trips, hikes, beach excursions and snorkeling. If
you choose to remain on Haad Rin Nok for the day to swim and
play volleyball, be sure to bring a hat as there is little shade
to offer protection from the sun. To get to the beach you
can also rent one of the island's very popular motorbikes at
the front desk, or feel free to navigate Phangan's narrow streets
by foot.
Just at the bottom of the hill to the resort,
the little town of Haad Rin Nok is bustling. Many tourist
shops sell interesting pieces of clothing and jewelry, and restaurants
are abundant. In addition to offering Thai food and of course,
seafood, many restaurants serve Israeli food due to the large
amounts of Israeli travelers to the island.
After dark, Haad Rin Nok is a place like
none other. Tourists rush to dance at one of the many beach
front clubs, offering an assortment of mainly western music. A
very popular destination is the clusters of chairs placed out
on the sand atop Thai rugs in front of these bars. It is
here that the young men and women literally play with fires. People
take turns twisting ropes and fire around their bodies to the
delight of onlookers sipping cocktails. It really is a must-see.
